The Cancer Awareness Foundation has created history by conducting the first-ever National Cancer Volunteer Summit in Bangladesh, with over 150 youth enthusiasts from medical colleges across the country attending 7 exclusive sessions on cancer control, prevention, and volunteering by 7 renowned mentors. The summit included real-life stories shared by a cancer survivor herself. The summit was attended by two living legends of cancer prevention and control: the Chief Guest, Professor Dr. M.A. Hai, the Director of Bangladesh Cancer Society Hospital and the Chief Advisor of the Cancer Awareness Foundation, and the other, Professor Dr. Latifa Shamsuddin, the Former Chairman of Gynecology and Obstetrics at BSMMU. The summit was also attended by Professor Dr. Zohora Jameela Khan and Professor Dr. Habibullah Talukdar, who appreciated the role of medical students in creating cancer awareness. The session by Dr. Mohammad Masumul Haque on “Close the Care Gap” was particularly insightful on how volunteering for cancer can ensure equity in the treatment of the disease.
