Our Story
Turning hopeinto action forcountless lives
The Cancer Awareness Foundation of Bangladesh (CAFB) since its formation in 2016 represents an answer to a national problem, one which we recognized cannot be won by the practice of medicine alone. We started off our mission by looking at things in a new light: taking the fight for life away from the clinical environment and bringing it right to the center of society. It was quickly made clear that though the medical aspect of treatment is important, it is the information, early detection, and massive awareness that can actually make the difference. Our intervention stems from action that serves as a connecting link between medical knowledge and ground realities. We try to intervene by working on projects such as CAPS and workshops that empower students and eliminate their fears. By using our community-based project “Suchona” and clinics such as “Cancer Protirodh O Sheba Kendra” (CPSK), we make sure that early detection is a basic right for everyone. Moreover, by our project named “Obolombon,” we pledge to offer support to those whom the whole system has ignored. Our interventions may be small in relation to the large ocean of necessity in our country, yet we make sure that we construct a bridge of hope using the best we can do—mental empathy for a patient’s suffering family. Moving into the future, there is an implicit confidence in our faith on the boundless potential of the youths. Students and young activists are believed to be the architects of a new culture of health in the nation. Through investment in their growth and empowerment through relevant programs, it is envisioned to empower young men and women who will light the flame of health education to each nook and cranny of the nation. There is a belief that through consistent efforts, it is possible to develop this project into a leading cancer care center in the world that will serve as an opportunity for the young individuals to ensure fair treatment for all people.
Do your homework
A key step to take before getting into any partnership is to gather all the information available about your future partner. Does their strategy seem well defined and is there any evidence their work is hitting the target? Have a look at their financial reports, whether there is any news coverage, and see how the money is being spent and what their priorities are. But also remember to check the trustee board: how many of them are there? Are they in touch with what’s going on?
Once you’ve found the ideal partner, think carefully about what you are trying to achieve together. A close partnerships with a clear plan translates into tangible and measurable results. However, crucial to this process is communication and openness: the more employees, investors, customers, and the broader community understand about the partnership, the more they will be able to help in achieving the goals set, by playing an active role or by becoming good ambassadors.
